Our learning in English Language Arts:

• We learned about when to use c or k at the beginning of a word when you hear a /k/ sound. When we hear that sound, we need to think about what vowel sound we hear. If the vowel sound is an /a/, /o/, or /u/, then we spell that word with a C (like in cup, cat, cop). If the vowel sound is a /i/ or /e/, then we spell that work with K (like in kite, keep).
• We focused on how-to writing this week. We learned how to create a specific topic to write about. For example, how to cook versus how to cook spaghetti. 
• We created our own how-to writing. Ask me what I wrote about!
• We celebrated Literacy Week in many different ways! We loved dressing like book characters, "stop, drop, and read", and reading outside with the whole school!

Our learning in Math:

• We started learning about fractions this week! We learned about different math words: whole, half, and equal. 
• We did many different tasks to explore making half and sharing equally amongst friends. 

Our learning in Social Studies:

• We learned more about taking care of our environment on Earth Day! We looked at all the different materials we can recycle, compost, or get a refund for. We showed our learning by creating a poster to help us sort our waste!

Supporting Learning at Home

Here are some ways that you can support your child's learning at home this week:

• Reading daily with your child and having them read to you
• Practicing fast facts and friends of 10 games
• Counting backwards from 20 to 0
• Practicing printing names with the correct upper and lowercase letters

Teach Your Monster To Read: our class code is 16699796. When you click the link or enter the code, you will need to type your child’s name with a capital letter (i.e.: Ben). This website is free on your computer, or you can download the app to a device.
