 Our learning in English Language Arts:

  • We have been learning about the difference between the "oo" in zoo (a long vowel sound) and the "oo" in book (a short vowel sound)
  • We have been learning about honesty! We learned about our 7 Sacred Teachings and how honesty is represented by a raven or a sabe in Indigenous cultures. We wrote with the prompt: I am honest when...
  • We've also started learning how to check and edit our writing! 


Our learning in Math:
  • We have been learning new strategies for adding numbers within 0 to 10. 
  • We have been practicing our friends of ten. We've been playing "Go Fish" with our friends of 10 cards. This is when we ask a partner for the card we're looking for! We have been loving it and your child can play at home with you with a deck of cards!



Our learning in Science:
  • We have been starting our unit on Energy and Movement! We began with thinking about what we know and wonder about energy. We've been learning about the different ways that animals move.
  • We explored how things move in our Makerspace! We built ramps to move objects. 


Our learning in Phys Ed:
  • We have been working on our hockey skills! We've been playing different types of games to build our skills. 


We had a special guest today! 
Eileen's mom, Dina, came to visit and tell us about Ramadan! We spent time listening to her sharing why Ramadan is important for their family.



If you would like to come visit to talk about something special about your culture, share about what you do for work, or even just read a story to us, please let me know! We love having guests come and share with our class.

Thursday, June 27th  is our school-wide PLAY DAY and EARLY DISMISSAL! As we will be outside, students should dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and come with sunscreen already applied (teachers cannot help with this task). We will be celebrating Play Day by having Freezies! If you do not want your child to have a school-provided Freezie on this day, please email me as soon as possible and send an alternative treat to school for your child to enjoy. We will be finished school this day at 1:05 p.m. as it is an early dismissal day! Our theme for Play Day this year is... Dress like a SUPERHERO!

 Our learning in English Language Arts & Literature: We learned how to read words with the suffix -le this week! These are words like turtle, humble, and apple! We continued researching rabbits. This week we focused on the rabbit's habitat and predators, and sketched the parts of a rabbit with labels! Our learning in Math: We started learning about subtraction this week! We learned about how to put the bigger number first and how to use different strategies to help us solve the questions. Our learning in Science: We started learning about the needs of plants and animals this week!  We focused on what are living things and non-living things are and how to sort them. This started some really interesting conversations! We began germinating pea seeds to see how they grow.
