Happy New Year and welcome back!
The weather this week is supposed to be quite cold. Students should be prepared for the cold weather by wearing warm boots, a winter jacket, snow pants, gloves or mittens, and a warm hat or hood. We are outside unless it is -20 and, even when it is -20, may be outside for short periods of time. We ask that students come to school already wearing their winter wear so they are comfortable being outside before the bell rings in the morning and during the recess periods. (If it is not -20 in the mornings, students will be outside prior to the bell.)
We greeted each other this morning with a community circle. We talked about an exciting thing we did over the winter break. Lots of friends went to the pool and saw friends and family!
We read the book "A Loud Winter's Nap". We learned about the story of Turtle and how he kept being woken up while he was trying to hibernate. He ended up enjoying some of the winter activities that his friends were doing! We talked about the kinds of winter activities we love. Ask me what I chose!
We started learning about following directions in science! We read the book "Coding to Kindness" and learned about how to solve the character's issues. We learned how important it is to be specific when giving or following directions. For example, it's important to tell someone to go up, down, right, or left, and how many steps to take! We practiced by getting a classmate to go to a specific "goal" in the classroom.
