Hello families,

Welcome to our new blog! We adjusted to having the wall in our classroom and we have already noticed a difference in our focus!

With December just around the corner, we will be having a lot of different spirit days! Please see the different spirit days at the end of the blog or in the Northern Lights News and Notes.

We reviewed the specific parts we need to know in a sentence, like a noun, verb, capital, punctuation and finger spaces. We worked on our own sentences using "I can...". We circled the naming part and underlined the telling part. 





In math, we explored the question: "the answer is 2, what is the question?" We thought of different ways to show 2. We have been exploring patterns as well!





We read "The Colour Monster" and drew our own monsters. We checked in with our bodies to see what colour we were. Ask me about my monster!

December 2 – Last Day for orders to be placed for Dec. 7 Fun Lunch for grades 1-5 at healthyhunger.ca
December 7 – Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch Day for those that order (Grades 1-5)
December 8 – NO SCHOOL for students (Non-Instruction Day)

December 20 – ‘Dress to Impress’ Day (Wear your best ‘Family Celebration’ outfit)
December 21 – It’s Winter Break after tomorrow – PJ Day
December 22 – Dress in Your Grade Team Colours (Orange for Grade One)

Thursday, June 27th  is our school-wide PLAY DAY and EARLY DISMISSAL! As we will be outside, students should dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and come with sunscreen already applied (teachers cannot help with this task). We will be celebrating Play Day by having Freezies! If you do not want your child to have a school-provided Freezie on this day, please email me as soon as possible and send an alternative treat to school for your child to enjoy. We will be finished school this day at 1:05 p.m. as it is an early dismissal day! Our theme for Play Day this year is... Dress like a SUPERHERO!

 Our learning in English Language Arts & Literature: We learned how to read words with the suffix -le this week! These are words like turtle, humble, and apple! We continued researching rabbits. This week we focused on the rabbit's habitat and predators, and sketched the parts of a rabbit with labels! Our learning in Math: We started learning about subtraction this week! We learned about how to put the bigger number first and how to use different strategies to help us solve the questions. Our learning in Science: We started learning about the needs of plants and animals this week!  We focused on what are living things and non-living things are and how to sort them. This started some really interesting conversations! We began germinating pea seeds to see how they grow.
